Specialized terms on translation systems
Here you have some definitions of the most important terms in Translation technoly in order to know a bit more about this filed of translation systems.
according to wikipedia:
-Machine_translation (MT): “is a sub-field of computational linguistics that investigates the use of computer software to translate text or speech from one natural language to another. It performs simple substitution of words in one natural language for words in another.
-Machine_aided_translation: is” a form of translation wherein a human translator translates texts using computer software designed to support and facilitate the translation process. It is also known as computer-assisted translation.”
the main difference between these two terms is that the machine translation refers to a computaional software and Machine aided translations refer to people who transalte texts using machine systems.
-Multilingual content management: set of processes and technologies that support the evolutionary life cycle of digital information in several languages. This digital information is often referred to as content or, to be precise, digital content. Digital content may take the form of text, such as documents, multimedia files, such as audio or video files, or any other file type which follows a content lifecycle which requires management.
-Translation technology: In general terms, translation technology involves all the previous terms, as it is the set which makes reference to every translation tool.
Translation examples by MT systems:
here you can enjoy some examples of MT translation systems, they are very useful. i have already try them and the results i have got are more or less the same:
Main characteristics of a translation task according to the FEMTI report.
The Framework for Machine Translation Evaluation in ISLE is an attempt to organize the various methods that are used to evaluate MT systems, and to relate them to the purpose and context of the systems. Therefore, FEMTI is made of two interrelated classifications or taxonomies. The first classification enables evaluators to define an intended context of use for the MT system to evaluate. Each feature is then linked to relevant quality characteristics and metrics, defined in the second classification.According to the FEMTI report,
“characteristics of the translation task refers to the information flow intended for the output, from the point of view of the agent (human or otherwise) who receives the translation”.
-for the translation are:
-communication: has to provide translations for dialogues between people who speak different languages.
-assimilation: monitoring a large volume of texts produced by people outside the organization
-dissemination: delivering to others a translation of documents produced inside the organization.

Five reasons to study Human Language Technologies.
Nowadays we live in a very technological society where most of the information we get is via multimedia systems, that is why Human Language Technologies are present nowadays in science and philologies.
but appart from this main reason i want to show you other good reasons to study Human Language Technologies so that you can understand the increasingly importance of this field in nowadays society:
-create sowftwares wich include knowledge in human language.
-“Specializing in speech and signal processing, statistical and corpus-based natural language processing, machine translation, text mining, information extraction, knowledge management, and related fields.”
-Having a much more complete analysis with the new technologies.
-it will help us to get a better job based on computanional technologies refering also to human language.
and the main reason in which all these studies will take form on:
-To create machines which could be able to comunicate with people.
European centres for HLT.
- Centre for Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics. “The Centre for Human language Technology and Bioinformatics of the University of Beira Interior was founded by Prof. Gaël Dias to investigate in the areas of Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics gathering researchers from Computer Science, Statistics, and Linguistics.”
- National Centre for Language Technology. “Language is the key modality in communication. The National Centre for Language Technology conducts research into the processing of human language by computers, such as speech recognition and synthesis, machine translation, human-computer interfaces, information retrieval and extraction, the teaching and learning of languages using computers and software localisation and globalisation. Research in Human Language Technology (HLT) is interdisciplinary and includes Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computational Linguistics (CL). HLT has substantial economic implications and potential. The centre carries out basic research and develops applications”.
- Language Technology Documentation Centre in Finland. “This site is being developed by and maintained by the Department of General Linguistics in the University of Helsinki. The Nordic language technology documentation project was financed partly by the Nordic Language Technology Research Program administered by NorFA, which later became NordForsk (…) Language technology is a multidisciplinary field, which studies technical means and methods that can be used to process natural language with computers. Some well-known applications of language technology are for example automatic authoring tools (such as spell checking) and speech recognition. Language technology has also many other application areas, which are introduced in the Technologies section and in Language Technology world”.
Hans Uszkoreit
Hans Uszkoreit is Professor of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University. he is also the director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
he defines himself as a computational linguist who works as a professor at the Saarland university.let´s have a look to some of the most important events on his formation as a HLT professional.
-Uszkoreit studied Linguistics and Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Texas at Austin.
-From 1982 until 1986, he worked as a computer scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Center of SRI International in Menlo Park.
-In 1986 he spent six months in Stuttgart on an IBM Research Fellowship at the Science Division of IBM Germany.
-In December 1986 he returned to Stuttgart to work for IBM Germany as a project leader in the project LILOG (Linguistic and Logical Methods for the Understanding of German Texts).
Hans Uszkoreit has published an co-published a lot of works. these works are very practical in order to understand and improve our everyday life with Human language technologies. His most important works are: “Language technology from a European Perspective” (2005) and ”Categorial Unifocation Grammars”(1986).
But if we focus on giving a definition of Human Languge Technologies we can have into account the one given by this expert on the field:
“are information technologies that are specialized for dealing with the most complex information medium in our world: Human language”. This is the reason, he continues, why they are called Human Language Technologies”.
Human Language Technologies
in this article i will try to define Human language technologies according to the studies of important scholars all around the internet.
-in the wikipedia i have found one of the best definition for this complex term:
“Human Language Technology (HLT) is also called Language Technology or Natural Language Processing (NLP) and consists of computational linguistics (or CL) and speech technology as its core but includes also many application oriented aspects of them. Language technology is closely connected to computer science and general linguistics.”
-according to two scholars, Piklu Gupta and Mathias Schulze, Human language technologie is:
” a new term that embraces a wide range of areas of research and development in the sphere of what used to be called Language Technologies or Language Engineering”.
After reading this definitions we can get a wider view of Human language technologies.
HUMANIDADES DIGITALES
